Christmas Concert 2023
June Concert 2023
We will be performing a concert starting 7pm on June 30th 2023 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Stroud GL5 4AA, along with 3 other wonderful local choirs: “The Tuesdays” and “The Cheltones” from Cheltenham, and The Rosary School Choir from Stroud. We’ll be raising funds for The Door, a charity operating locally to help young people and their families who have fallen on hard times. It’s a really good cause and we’ve got lots of great new material for you (some you may be surprised by!) so please come along.
Tickets are £8 per person (under 11’s and carers free), available from any of the choirs, from The Door shop in Stroud, or from The Door web site.
Don’t just sing in the shower!
We are having a ‘Bring a Friend’ session on 14th September for anybody who wants to have a go at singing with a (mostly) friendly community choir.
This is a free taster session and if you don’t know anyone in the choir please use our ‘Contact Us’ page for more details.
Please do come and join us – no auditions 🎬 no need to read music 🎼 no previous singing experience required 🎤 – all we ask for is bags of enthusiasm! 😁
New Recordings!
Check out our recordings page for some recordings from our concert with Gloucestershire Police Choir last week. It was a great concert and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – thanks to all involved in making it happen.
WHITESHILL AND RUSCOMBE COMMUNITY CHOIR – MAY 2022
On Friday 6 th May the Whiteshill and Ruscombe Community Choir was very happy to
perform before a warm and receptive audience of around 60 people at The
Ruscombe Chapel.
The Choir sang a varied 90 minute programme which included;
“Moon River”, from the musical Breakfast at Tiffany’s; “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen;
as well as “Human” by Rag & Bone Man.
There were some lovely solos and duets from members of the choir,
a new feature for our concerts. Plus our very enthusiastic audience joined
in with gusto for the singing of two favourites “Oom Pah Pah” and
“Consider Yourself” from Lionel Bart’s “Oliver”.
A successful concert thanks to our musical director Luc Bailey, who coped with his usual
professionalism and good humour. Thank you Luc.
We are delighted that we raised £377 for Chapel Funds and
Brenda and her helpers also made over £50 from refreshments.
Thank you for inviting us to perform and thank you to the audience
for your support.
P.S We meet in Whiteshill and Ruscombe Village Hall, (weekly during school term times), on Wednesdays from 7:30 until 9:00pm. If you are interested in joining the Choir, why not come along to a free taster session – no auditions necessary!
Christmas Concert 2021!
We will be performing on Saturday December 4th at St Mary’s Church Painswick, as part of a charity event raising money for the Cotswold Cats and Dogs Home. Doors open 5pm for a 5:30 start. The event features a number of stage and screen stars, and of course, there will be mulled wine and mince pies! See https://www.cotswoldsdogsandcatshome.org.uk/christmas-celebration for more details.
We’re Back!
After a long 18 months of seeing each other only on Zoom, we are now able to start rehearsals once again.
Our first get-together on Wednesday Sept 8th will take the form of an AGM (at which we will vote in a new set of committee members), combined with a song-song of some of our old favourites. The following week we will start a new programme with our new music director, Luc Bailey.
This September, more than ever, we are really looking forward to welcoming as many of you back as possible. We understand that some of you may not be sure or feel uncomfortable about returning, so we are putting measures in place that we need to follow to help keep everyone safe:
- All members need to be either double vaccinated or to have had a negative LFT within the 24 hours prior to the choir rehearsal.
- Masks to be worn on arrival and departure, and when moving around the Hall until seated.
- Members to wipe down their own chair after rehearsal using the anti-bacterial wipes provided.
- Seats to always remain a suitable distance apart.
- Windows will be open so as the evenings draw in, you may wish to bring a few extra layers.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Announcing Our New Musical Director
As we previously announced, Chris Owen, who led the choir as Musical Director since 2016, decided to step down from the role just prior to the start of Covid lock-down. We would like to express our warm thanks to Chris for all the hard work he has put in over the years and for helping to grow the choir into the village phenomenon that it is today!
We are now delighted to announce, as we prepare to start live rehearsals again, that we have a new Musical Director – Luc Bailey. For those of you that don’t know Luc, he used to live in the village and was our pianist a few years ago. He also leads the Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir, and works as a music and theatre practitioner at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.
We think Luc is an ideal choice to take the choir forward and are very excited to start working with him. For rehearsals, he will accompany us on the piano as well as conducting – although we may hire an additional accompanist for performances.
